The Path that is Life

In DeCaurteau's essay Walking in the city, he says, "These practitioners make use of spaces that cannot be seen; their knowledge of them is as blind as that of lovers in each other's arms. The paths that correspond in this intertwining unrecognized poems in which each body is an element sign by many others elude legibility" (98). He explains that these networks of paths that people's lives are composed of containing a story; they represent a part of their lives. Except, the path is invisible, but it is there if one looks at their life, how they embark are their daily lives; one will see a "geographic space" in which our lives are composed of. This idea is where I got the inspiration for my project.
Each day we embark on a series of paths that we may or may not have taken before. Yet, there is not a moment where you sit down and analyze how you move, how people walk, or how nature moves. I then thought of the subway, taking the subway is a part of my daily life, something that being in a vast city I take almost every day.
Each point I leave from to go to using the subway is a fragment of the 'story' of my life. So, I chose to analyze how the subway moves, how my body moves on the subway, how the other people move on the subway—looking at even the color I was wearing that day, along with the colors everyone else was wearing. One the bottom of each notecard, I noted where I left and the destination I was going to, whether it was my friend's house, class, or running an errand. From this, I learned that each one of us has a story; the paths we chose to take on that day compose our life, and just taking a moment to look is essential.

The World Wide Web V. The Library of Babel

Unfolding the Universe

The World Wide Web article discusses the early creation of the internet along with how it functions, how to use it, and how it came to be. Furthermore, it introduces the function of the W3 clients once downloaded on your computer and how to use that in relation to hypertext format. Also, it outlines how linking works, as well as menus, directories, multimedia data systems, and URI’s. The Library of Babel article discusses the Universe, being represented as an “infinity number of hexagonal galleries.” Each hexagonal room contains four walls of books, rooms for sleeping, rooms for using the restrooms, and mirror halls leading to other hexagonal galleries that can be seen as the infinite nature of the Universe. The narrator then outlines two overarching ideas about the library that it has existed forever and second “the orthographical symbols are twenty-five in number.” The two texts can be compared in several ways, one of which is they both represent access to an infinite amount of knowledge, there is no end to it; timeless in nature. This being so, both represent the Universe, the library is the Universe itself, but if the world wide web also an entity of knowledge, it is impossible to find all the answers can be seen as a representation of the library of the Universe..

Common Talks

When collecting the newspapers, I wanted to analyze which articles were the most popular to publish. Each day for the allotted time I had to create the project, I collected newspapers from 4 of the most sold companies and analyzed what the most popular topics to discuss in the papers were. The first topic the one I found to be the most popular was corona, all throughout each newspaper were always several articles about how the coronavirus is rising in new york, how the death toll is rising in the US, along with many other topics related. Not only did, I want to analyze the most common topics, but also incorporate the colors most associated with that topic and the colors that most stood out in each article. The color for the coronavirus topic, was blue, in each article blue was a color that as always included, whether it was through the images of people wearing masks, through lights or the reprinted image of the American flag the color was always there. The second topic I found to be shared was the presidential race; there were always several articles included about politics, whether it be blasting trump, or discussing Biden, or how the polls are going in each state. For this topic, white most fitted, because in each article, they always include pictures of one of the race candidates. The presidential candidates were always shown wearing white collared shirts. The third topic is women; there is always a beautiful woman advertising some form of fashion or something female celebrity being a placher on the cover of that page. So, for this I chose pink, there was always a garment with pink shown. The fourth topic that was always brought up was violence; for this color, I chose red to symbolize violence, scrutiny, bloodshed, and sadness.

Shapes Pattern Textiles

Creativity lies within

For the shapes, patterns, and textiles project, I wanted to choose items that were meaningful to me. So, from that, I chose a picture of my dog, my camera, and my favorite pair of shoes. My dog represents my family and friends; they are the people in my life who are always there and are my backbone. The camera is representative of the love I have for photography and all the creative power it gives me. The shoes are meant to represent fashion, I have always loved clothes, following fashion trends and fashion designers. I wanted to create shapes that represent me and the parts of my life.

Color Theory

Color Experimentation

In Carole Liehman’s essay she discusses, the introduction of color photography into the art world and how people have reacted to the modernization of photography. The part of the essay I found interesting is when she talks about the scientist Bartleson and his color tests. Colors are imprinted in our memory, some more easily as other such as memory colors, “Memory colors are hues that we can recall easily, and thus they would seem to provide the imaging industry with a straightforward heuristic for judging accuracy.” Through his test Bartleson found that your remember that color with an “exaggerated” intensity or with less color than it actually is. Therefore, all the data that has recorded colors from people’s memories are not reality, even our memory has subalterations, similar to alterations the camera makes or even one makes on the computer. The author then goes on to further explain that through more scientific studies, that each human perceives color different. That what color is pleasing to one human may not be to another, so she concludes that in order “to make images pleasing to humans still requires humans to say what pleases them.” Whether someone likes a color photograph, movie, clothing, etc. relies on one’s perception of that color

The Image I chose to break down, is one I took during quarantine a few weeks ago, while I was exploring the woods in my backyard. This pictures is of the entrance to the forest-like area in my backyard. It features a numerous amount of plants surrounding and dark green gate in the very middle of the photograph. I chose this photograph because I wanted to be able to see all the different shades of green that could come out of this photograph, a long with any other colors I may not even notice. My favorite color combination that I created out of this picture was #0B1D00, #103D31, #589600, #C3E53D, AND #EBE5D1.

3D Model

The Lucky Cat

When choosing the object I wanted to do as my 3D model, at first, I couldn’t find an object around my house that genuinely intrigued me, until I remember the lucky cat that sat in my kitchen. It was a gilded gold cat with a green belly and red accents on the ears. It has Chinese writing on the stomach and the right hand that is raised and tilts up and down for good luck. When first starting to upload the pictures to the 3D mesh generation app, I was nervous about how it would turn out even how it would look, seeing as I have never done anything related to 3D modeling. This project was one of the most interesting because I got to look at a whole other aspect of art and got to compare it to the 2D imaging that I see daily. My favorite part of this creation was the jpg from photoshop, that was created, the colors on it look amazing all together

My Quarantine Diary

For my Indesign booklet, I wanted to make it a journal-type book, where the 20 images were based on what I have been doing to stay positive during quarantine and what in general have I been doing. The 20 pictures I collected were moments in my experience that I have enjoyed the most, whether It was from spending time with my family, going on walks, or even face timing my friends. This quarantine I have learned is important to focus on the little things like having this time with my dogs and family that I won't get again for a long time or even being able to facetime with my friends. These little experiences that I captured in a single photograph are some that I will always remember. Through my InDesign booklet, I wanted to share these little moments, that may not be the most exciting, but are people, animals, or activities that mean a lot to me.
The first two images of my booklet are of my dogs who I spend probably the most time with, whether it is on the couch or in my parent's room, and the image on the right is of the fireplace that we have been hanging out at night making smores or talking. The next set of images is of the news, which I have been watching every other day to make sure I stay informed on what is happening with coronavirus, and on the right is a moment when I have been studying to keep on track with school. The third set of images are two magazines that I receive every month, that I always read. The fourth set of pictures is me face timing two of my best friends; during this period, I have been trying to call my friends every day or at least most days. Next on the right is a picture of my dog's leashes because I try to take them on a walk every day to stay active, and sometimes we go as a family. The image on the right is when I took all four of my dogs and my sister on a car ride in our vintage car, I do this occasionally to enjoy the beautiful weather. The last images are of me showing the mask I wear if I am going outside or to the grocery store, and the other image is one I took on a walk through the park. The last set of images is a book I read this past weekend; I have been trying to catch up on my reading. I enjoy it because it gets my mind to relax. The other image is of birds on our porch me, and my mom have been watching and taking care of. We had another set on our front porch, but the babies grew up and flew away already.r
