COLOR
Color images, as suggested in Color Goes Electric, can be adjusted based on the “convergence of industry, science, and consumer preference”. Different film companies may “manipulates reality in different ways” based on colors. In contrast, black and white photographs seems to have limited choices. However, the color gray, between the two extremes, gives the images infinite possibilities just like color photographs. In my photography series, Song of a Lonely Bird, I use different shades of gray to create the atmosphere and emotions of my images. “It lacks both splendors and miseries, lets you vanish into the act of looking at it, neither makes a demand nor gives an answer.” Geoffrey O’Brien states in his analysis of the color gray in the Cabinet Magazine. My color choice enforces the theme of loneliness. Like the color gray, loneliness is “unbeckoning and inescapable.” Both the color gray and the feeling of loneliness are neither positive nor negative. They are not fun, yet inevitable.
