“THE WORLD WIDE WEB" AND "THE LIBRARY OF BABEL"
“The World Wide Web” was published in 1994 in the beginning of the Internet Age. It introduces basic internet concept to the mass, and emphasizes the universal terms and languages that build up the internet system. Jorge Luis Borges creates a universe in the form of a library in his philosophical essay “The Library of Babel”. This universe contains adjacent hexagonal rooms, each with four walls of books. The books are completely random and have no specific meaning. However, they only contains 25 specific characters, and everything in this enormous universe are made up with these characters. Although these two pieces of writing are really different in their forms and styles, and may seem completely unrelated, there is one obvious overlap in their concepts--Both systems are made up with complex usage of a simple language. The language acts as a key. Everyone in every corner of this "universe" could use this key to interpret a message, as the same language builds up and explains everything in this system-- This is the most essential idea of making a universal system.
